When Michael Sloan, founder of KeyStone Admin, set out to build a business, it wasn’t just an idea—it was a solution born from real-world experience. Managing multiple entities tied to real estate, affordable housing, corporate housing, and back-office operations revealed a clear and pressing need: small business owners often lack the structured administrative support necessary to grow and operate efficiently. From that realization, KeyStone Admin was created to provide reliable, virtual back-office support that helps businesses bring order to complexity, improve coordination, and operate with clarity and consistency. In addition to his work as an entrepreneur, Michael also serves as the pastor of the First Congregational Church in Spencerport, NY, a role that reflects his deep commitment to service, leadership, and supporting others both in business and in faith.

Like many entrepreneurs, the founder sought guidance during a critical stage of development. After connecting with a lender at Community Bank, he was referred to the Finger Lakes SBDC hosted by SUNY Brockport. He came in seeking more than just technical advice—he was looking for perspective, a sounding board, and a trusted partner to help navigate the challenges of building a sustainable business.

Through ongoing advisement sessions with Certified Business Advisor, Kristine Rudgers of the Finger Lakes SBDC hosted by SUNY Brockport and Intern, Paige Elliott, graduating student of SUNY Brockport’s Marketing program, the Finger Lakes SBDC became a consistent and valuable source of support. The most meaningful impact, according to the client, was not just the resources provided, but the steady presence of guidance and encouragement. Regular meetings allowed him to refine his ideas, strengthen his business model, and confidently take next steps. This level of support helped transform uncertainty into direction, reinforcing that his vision was both achievable and worthwhile.

As KeyStone Admin developed, several challenges emerged—particularly around building operational structure while simultaneously managing multiple business entities. Clarifying service offerings, positioning the business effectively, and navigating financing options added layers of complexity. With guidance from the SBDC, the client was able to work through these challenges in a practical and strategic way, connecting with appropriate resources, refining his business plan, and staying focused even when the path forward felt unclear.

SBDC intern Paige Elliott played a meaningful role in the client’s journey through her ability to translate vision into a cohesive and compelling brand. Drawing on her marketing expertise, Paige worked closely with the client to not only design a custom logo for KeyStone Admin, but to help shape the overall brand identity—ensuring it reflected the professionalism, clarity, and purpose behind the business. Her thoughtful approach went beyond design, helping position the business in a way that resonates with its target audience and supports long-term growth. When the client first saw the logo—his business brought to life visually—it was an emotional moment that brought him to tears. Paige’s work not only captured the essence of the business but also instilled a renewed sense of pride and confidence in what he is building.

Looking ahead, the future for KeyStone Admin is both ambitious and promising. Over the next three to five years, the company aims to grow into a strong and dependable virtual support provider serving small businesses across multiple industries. With a foundation in real estate-related services, the business is also positioning itself for government contracting opportunities and broader market expansion. By continuing to strengthen internal systems, build a capable team, and establish strategic partnerships, KeyStone Admin is on a path toward long-term sustainability and impact.
